Tania Mathewson
Tania Mathewson is an Accredited Practising Dietitian (APD) and Nutritionist (AN) who is passionate about coaching people to make healthier eating choices.
Tania Mathewson is currently accepting new patient referrals, for patients who want to improve their mental health through dietary changes.
Tania sees patients who would like to improve their symptoms of conditions such as depression or anxiety through dietary changes, such as adopting a Mediterranean diet.
Studies have shown that people living with mental illness have a poorer quality diet compared to the general population. Their diet may be energy dense, high in saturated fat, salt and sugar. It includes a high number of takeaway and convenience foods, a low intake of fruit and vegetables and a high intake of sugar-sweetened drinks.
Tania is a Mediterranean diet enthusiast. It is one of the most evidence based dietary patterns worldwide. The Mediterranean diet is recommended in the nutritional management of many chronic diseases including cardiovascular disease, type 2 diabetes mellitus, fatty liver disease, chronic kidney disease and depression and anxiety.
