Bookings
Book your first appointment
After a psychiatrist or clinician has accepted your referral, you will be invited to make your first appointment at Waymind.
You’ll get a call from our receptionists, who will tell you which dates and times are available.
You can book over the phone, or you can ask for an email with a link to book online via HealthEngine.
Please note that psychiatrists and clinicians see patients between 1 and 4 days a week at Waymind. For example, this might mean that the psychiatrist is only able to see you on a specific day of the week, such as a Tuesday if that is their only day at Waymind in Deakin.
Book a return visit
During your appointment, your psychiatrist or clinician will tell you when they’d like to see you next. Depending on your condition, they might suggest weekly follow up sessions, fortnightly, monthly, or longer.
Please see our receptionists on your way out to book your next appointment.
Alternatively, you can book a return visit online via HealthEngine.
Because appointments can book up weeks in advance, we recommend booking as early as possible. Waiting to book your next appointment might mean that your preferred time isn’t available, or you might have to wait longer than recommended between appointments.
If you need to book regular recurring appointments, our receptionists can help you book up to 3 appointments at a time, up to 3 months in advance.
To change your appointment time
If you need to change your appointment time, you can make changes online or on the phone at least 24 hours before your appointment.
Monday appointments may be changed no later than 2pm on Friday. This is to allow psychiatrists and clinicians time to book patients on their waiting list into the available appointment time.
Please note: Changes or cancellations less than 48 hours before your appointment time may be charged a cancellation fee. (See cancellation policy below)
To change to a telehealth appointment
In some cases, such as if you have received a Covid diagnosis and stay at home order, you may be able to change your appointment to a telehealth appointment within 24 hours.
This option is only available for existing patients who have seen their psychiatrist or clinician at least once in person before the telehealth appointment request.
For all first appointments, your doctor would like to meet you in person because we find that makes for a strong start to your doctor-patient relationship.
Telehealth is not available for group programs and some other services.
Cancellation policy
We understand that life happens and sometimes you wake up sick without warning.
Out of respect for your psychiatrist’s or clinician’s time, if you need to change or cancel your appointment, please contact Waymind as soon as you know.
If you can’t leave home, you may be able to switch to a telehealth appointment, even within 24 hours (existing patients only, not available for first appointments).
Changes or cancellations less than 24 hours before your appointment time may incur a cancellation fee of $100.
This is because it’s difficult for your psychiatrist or clinician to book a patient from their waiting list into an appointment time in less than 24 hours.
Monday appointments may be changed or cancelled no later than 2pm on Friday. Our receptionists don’t work on weekends, so we need time on Friday afternoon to call a patient on the waiting list to offer a Monday appointment.
With late notice changes and cancellations, it means that other patients might miss out on a much needed appointment.
