Getting to Waymind
Get to Waymind by car
Waymind is located at 77 Denison Street Deakin ACT 2600.
The entrance is at the back of the building and our rooms are on level 1, with lift access.
Parking near Waymind in Deakin
If you’re getting a lift, taxi or Uber, you can get them to drop you off outside in any safe place to stop.
Waymind has 4 dedicated patient parking spots in the front of the building.
They are generously sized parking spots, but unfortunately they are not designated disabled parking spots. We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause.
Enter the parking area via either the right or left driveway. Please take care and look for other cars going in and out of these driveways.
Parking beyond the boom gate is reserved for patients of Canberra Retina Clinic, our ground floor neighbours. For this reason, please don’t park beyond the boom gates.
On-street parking options:
If the Waymind dedicated front parking spots are full, please look for on-street parking. There’s usually plenty of on-street parking nearby.
- Parking on the Waymind side of the road is free and mostly 2 hours during business hours
- Parking on the sports oval and Royal Mint side of the road is free and usually unlimited during business hours
- Parking around the corner in Makin Street is free and usually 3 hours during business hours ( beware of some spots in Makin street marked for less than 3 hours)
Please check all parking signs carefully, and make sure you allow enough time for your appointment plus a little extra in case of any unforeseen delays
Get to Waymind via public transport
You can get to Waymind on the 58 bus route. The closest bus stop is on Denison street, in front of 63 Denison Street (Deakin Private Hospital) and opposite the Royal Mint. Walk about 50 metres south to Waymind at 77 Denison street.
There’s also the 57 bus route, which has a stop near 50 Kent Street Deakin, outside the Canberra Private Hospital. Plus a 700 metre walk from there to Waymind at 77 Denison Street via Strickland Close.
LGBTQIA+ and Transgender friendly service
We want you to be yourself and come as you are, knowing that LGBTQIA+, transgender and non-binary people are welcome at Waymind.
Please tell us your pronouns and your preferred name in your patient intake form. Even if the name on your Medicare card or ID is different.
On level 1, we have a women’s bathroom, men’s bathroom, and an all-gender wheelchair accessible bathroom. You can use whichever bathroom you like.
If you have any feedback about how we can better support you as a patient who identifies as an LGBTQIA+ person, please talk to your specialist, or our friendly receptionists, or email feedback@waymind.com.au
Bringing someone with you
If you’d like to, you’re welcome to bring someone with you to Waymind.
You may bring:
- Interpreter (professional or a family member)
- Carer or disability support worker
- Family member, partner or loved one
- Your baby
Please let us know you’d like to bring someone when you make your appointment or when you arrive, so we can make sure to have enough chairs available in the consultation room.
Depending on your situation, your doctor may prefer to speak with you alone for part of your appointment. They’ll ask you if that’s OK first.
Your doctor might also ask to speak to your carer, family member or loved one alone, in case they can provide any extra information about your symptoms. Again, they’ll ask you if you agree first.
Babies at Waymind
If you need to bring your baby with you, it may help if you can bring someone who can care for your baby during your time with the psychiatrist or clinician. Having someone care for your baby will allow you to focus on your own needs for a while, because your needs are important.
At the same time, we understand that it can be hard to focus on yourself when you have a new baby. Many of the people you’ll meet at Waymind are parents, so we get it, and we’re here to support you as best we can.
If it’s not possible to bring a carer for your baby, you are of course welcome to bring your baby into your consultation.
Waymind has baby change facilities and a nappy bin in the all-gender, pram accessible bathroom.
Fees
Before your appointment, you’ll get a copy of our financial consent information so you know what to expect to pay on the day.
Our receptionists can tell you the expected fees over the phone when you book your appointment.
You’ll know, in advance, the total fee payable on the day, and the standard Medicare rebate for the service that you’ll get back as a refund.
Let us know if you would like your psychiatrist’s or clinician’s fees list in writing and we can email it to you.
Please note that fees may change at any time, and we will inform you if there has been a change in fees since your last appointment.
Each psychiatrist and allied health clinician sets their own fees, so the same service may be a different cost between different providers.
Medicare rebates
When you hold a Medicare card and see a private-billing psychiatrist or allied health clinician in their rooms or via telehealth, you’ll get a rebate, or refund, for a portion of the fees.
The Medicare Benefits Scheme sets the rebate amount for each service (or MBS item number), and the psychiatrist or clinician sets their own fees above the Medicare rebate amount.
This means you will pay a gap, or out-of-pocket cost, for your appointment.
If you have automatic Medicare refunds set up, you should see the refund amount returned to your bank account within 24-48 hours.
Medicare Safety Net threshold
After you have paid a certain amount of out-of-pocket costs in a year, the Medicare safety net threshold will kick in. Medicare safety net thresholds are calculated each calendar year, from 1 January to 31 December.
After you have reached the threshold, your Medicare benefit (refundable amount) may cover up to 80% of the out-of-pocket fee.
This means your out-of-pocket costs for each appointment will be lower for the rest of the year.
On 1st January each year, your Medicare safety net will reset, and your out-of-pocket fees will go back to the pre-threshold level.
You can find out more about Medicare Safety Nets on the Services Australia website.
Private Health Insurance
Most private health insurance policies don’t cover out-of-hospital psychiatric services, such as seeing your psychiatrist in their rooms.
However, some extras policies may give you access to sessions with a psychologist.
Check your policy to find out if you’re covered for inpatient private hospital admissions for psychiatry, as each cover level will be different. Waiting periods may apply before you can start using extras cover.
If you need to be admitted to hospital while you are under a psychiatrist’s care, your psychiatrist will discuss options with you. There are both public and private psychiatric hospital services in Canberra.
